It’s A Fun-Filled Fall!

We are all loving the fall fun that has been happening in our class! First up! These AWESOME fall books I found at Barnes and Noble last week. We have already read “How Big Could a Pumpkin Grow?” and “Leaf Man.” The illustrations in both of those books are incredible! We’ll be reading “Pick a Circle, Gather Squares” next week! Our next math unit is all about 2-D shapes, so I can’t wait to read it. I am always searching to find math texts that I can incorporate into math instruction. Who say you can’t read during math time, right? image

After reading “Leaf Man,” we had the BEST discussion about what we do if we were leaves. One student started by saying, “If I were a leaf, I’d go to Texas and eat a taco with a Sprite Zero.” HA! Of course, that led the way for MANY

other Texas-bound leaves. Hilarious!

Then, we created our own leaf boys and girls and WROTE about what we would do if we were leaves!

For morning work, we found fall words in a fun word search!

We also continued practice real and non-sense words (pumpkin style, of course!).  image

We’ve also be doing some fun fall-filled activities during The Daily 5 too. These leaf cards have been a HUGE HIT at Work on Writing. They love picking a leaf card and then writing creative stories! One of my favorite things about first graders is that they are already SO naturally creative. It doesn’t take much effort at all for them to come up with an

incredibly unique and capturing story! I just love it.  If you’d like to do some of these fun fall-themed activities, you can grab everything in my Falling for Autumn packet. Just click HERE! What fall activities do you enjoy doing with your students? Tell me about them in the comments!

    Hi Lyndsey–

    I really like your blog!

I'm Felicia Sanzari Chernesky, the author of Pick a Circle, Gather Squares. I'm thrilled to see that you'll be using the book for your classwork and was wondering if you would like some signed bookmarks to hand out to your students?

p.s. By the way, I'll be doing an author visit and signing in Baltimore City on October 12 at the Red Canoe Bookstore Cafe!

    Lyndsey,

I just found your blog from Paul's post on the TpT sellers forum.

Those book recommendations look great, I'll definitely have to check those out.

I recently purchased an awesome book about Autumn which is full of nature activities such as basket making, den building, caring for birds and making paper etc. Autumn is definitely my favourite time of year.

Thanks for sharing your great ideas, I'm now following you.

    Best wishes,

    Lisa
