This week, I added some easy and effective phonics sheets (for the entire year) to my shop! These sheets were created to help students become confident and independent phonics gurus! They work wonderfully as independent practice worksheets, quick assessments , or homework pages.

EXAMPLES OF THE PHONICS SHEETS
The layout and format of each sheet is the same. This allows students to give 100% of their attention to the task at hand, and not get caught up in how to complete the activity. It also gives you more teaching time!
If you use the Flip and Read Books (found here) in your classroom, you’ll see that the set-up for these sheets is very similar, which makes for easy explanation. However, these can still be used as a stand-alone activity (if you don’t use the Flip and Read Books).
Below, I’ll explain each section of the phonics sheets!
INTRODUCE THE PATTERN
For this section, have students say each letter inside the quotation marks (ex: e…c…k). You can have students draw a little line under each letter as they say it aloud. Then, have students say each letter-sound and “scoop” the sounds together. Have students draw a line under the sounds as they scoop them together. Then, have them practice the example.
I CAN IDENTIFY
For this section, have students say each picture aloud. Then, have them decode each word and write it. For correct spelling, I only put the emphasis on the sound-spelling we are working on (unless they have learned the other sound-spellings already). For example, if my students have not learned that /sk/ is spelled “sc,” I’m not going to worry too much if they spell words like “scab” with a “k” and not a “c.”
I CAN MATCH
For this section, students must match each sentence to the correct picture. Some teachers have students circle the sentence and the picture with the same colored crayon. Other teachers have their students draw a line. Do what works for you!
I CAN READ AND CIRCLE
For this section, students will read the short story three times. These short stories can be tongue twisters so the more students read them, the more fluent they will become. After reading the text three times, students will circle words with the sound-spelling they are focusing on.
I CAN WRITE A STORY
Finally, the last section requires students to write their own short story. Once they use a word in the story, have them cross it out. I always tell my students that their story can be silly! I want them to focus more on whether or not they can correctly use the words in sentences.
